The holiday classic soars off the screen in this Broadway Junior, 60-minute musical adaptation of the beloved television special. Filled with holiday hits like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ JR. features all of your favorite characters including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph. It’s an adventure that teaches us that what makes you different can be what makes you special.
Because of his shiny nose, Rudolph doesn’t feel like he belongs in Christmastown and sets off to find a place that accepts him. Along his journey, he encounters fellow misfits, only to realize that home is where he has belonged the whole time. When a storm threatens to keep Santa’s sleigh from taking flight, it’s up to Rudolph to save Christmas!
Youth 18 and under will be cast in the show but they must be able to follow directions and do the work that is required to put on a successful show.
Children 6 and under will be determined on a case by case basis
We don’t typically hold traditional auditions for our youth productions. We’ve found that many young performers haven’t yet had the opportunity to learn what an audition is really about, and we never want the audition process itself to keep a child from participating.
As an educational theatre program, our goal is to give every child the opportunity to learn, grow, and be part of the production, regardless of their previous experience. We do our best to cast every student who signs up.
On the first day, we introduce the cast to the audition process through fun theatre games, activities, and exercises. This gives students a chance to become comfortable while also allowing our directing team to get to know their personalities, strengths, and abilities. From there, we determine which role we feel will be the best fit for each cast member.
Our casts generally range from about 25 to 45 students.
Once in a great while, we may receive an especially large number of registrations. When that happens, we may use some traditional audition steps to help narrow participants. Our goal is always to make the experience encouraging, educational, and enjoyable for every student regardless of experience.
The are not required to know how to sing and dance. The songs are very easy to sing and the dances will be easy. Experience is not required but always very helpful.
Orientation is Saturday, October 10 at 11 a.m. until about 6 p.m.
We will start with a one hour parent Orientation followed by a reading the script, viewing an actual show on the screen and participating in audition games. Breaks are also involved.
First day of rehearsals will Start Saturday, October 17th at 11 a.m.
Rehearsals are held both Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Our staff is there from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cast schedule will be broken down by scenes and characters once we receive conflicts and finish the casting. Not everyone will be called at all times. Toward the end, last couple weekends rehearsals would be all day.
The Musical is 60 minutes.
There will be 5 performances.
Friday, December 11 at 6:30 P.M.
Saturday at 2:00 P.M. and 6:30 P.M.
Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Tickets will be 15 for adults, 10 for students and free under 7 if they sit in the youth pit.
Everything will be taking place at our Theatre located inside the Shops at Palm Desert Mall. Lower Level by JC Penney.
We’re excited to make this production a wonderful experience for our cast!
At this time, we are considering a $40 materials fee to help with some of the direct costs that go into bringing the show to life.
As a nonprofit youth theatre, we work hard to keep participation affordable for families. Donations, grants, and community support make a huge difference in helping us provide these opportunities for young performers.
From time to time, we may also invite cast families to help in small ways with the production. Every little bit of support helps us create something special together, and we’re incredibly grateful to have our families as part of the experience!
