Who's behind the festival?
We are Children’s Playtime Productions (CPP) — the valley’s first educational children’s theatre — and Youth Theatre Players (YTP) at the Shops at Palm Desert. For over 30 years, thousands of Coachella Valley students have experienced our productions at the McCallum Theatre. Our mission has always been the growth and development of youth through active theatre participation.
Our Season Purpose
For the 2025–26 season, CPP is focusing on smaller, high‑impact projects that create more chances for students to shine: fully staged production numbers, one‑acts, mini‑musicals, extended scenes, and more.

Music Theatre International (MTI) offers a curated set of 47 short musicals running 10–12 minutes each, spanning a variety of styles and themes. They’re practical, affordable for us, and exciting for students.

Frequently asked questions
Any Coachella Valley high school may assemble a student group. Drama and choir teachers often collaborate, but groups can be formed by any interested staff sponsor.
CPP secures rights for the selected 10‑minute musical and partners with your campus through our Youth Take the Stage program. Your school receives full credit in festival materials.
Totally flexible: CPP staff can coach and choreograph, your HS team can direct, or students can self‑direct. You can mix‑and‑match based on capacity and timelines. Studio space at the Palm Desert mall is available.
MTI’s shorts run 10–12 minutes, making them manageable within busy schedules. Most schools plan a few weeks of short rehearsals leading up to the festival. Then a tech rehearsal at Palm Desert High before the show.
Performance rights and festival coordination are supported through the Anderson Children’s Foundation grant and CPP. If minimal production needs arise, we’ll work with you on simple, budget‑friendly solutions.
The tentative festival date is January 24, 2026. Palm Desert High School has offered its theatre as a central venue; the CPP/YTP studio is also available as needed.
Yes! Student‑led companies are encouraged. CPP can provide mentorship check‑ins if desired.
